ACCOLADES FOR TEACHING

100_0942.JPG

Katherine is a wonderful and very experienced teacher who has the rare ability to inspire in students the qualities of music appreciation, the joy of learning, and the desire to progress. She is passionate and very enthusiastic about teaching, extremely patient, always giving you 110% of her ability in a lesson. All this is imparted with compassion, flexibility, and humour. Her deep love and vast knowledge of music, and pedagogical skills is impressive, all of which is reflected in her teaching. I feel fortunate to have Katherine as my teacher and give her my highest recommendation.

Under Katherine's excellent teaching, our son has gone from beginner to completing RCM Grade 10 and we're still going. Katherine has a positive, encouraging approach, which helps students enjoy the learning experience, yet she has high expectations for technical development and musicianship. In addition to carefully preparing her students for music exams or competitions, and teaching the theory courses such as harmony and history, Katherine happily supports new musical opportunities for the student, such as providing coaching for chamber music, suggesting duet partners, or arranging performance opportunities. Because of Katherine's enthusiasm, commitment and extensive personal experience, her students get a beautifully well-rounded musical education.

I began studying with Katherine Ramseyer on the recommendation of a school music teacher at the age of eight, and this was one of the best decisions I have made in my musical career.  She is a unfailingly kind teacher, who pushed me towards not only becoming a successful pianist, but also a better person. Learning both practical and theoretical aspects of piano, I found that she was well prepared and organized in her teaching methods, and ensured I was equipped with the skills needed to do well in examinations and competitions. With her guidance, she has helped inspire me to continue my passion for music as a career path. I recently graduated from Western University with a Bachelors in Music Education, and am working towards my Masters in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at Westminster Choir College, in hopes that I can make a positive influence as a teacher, as Katherine has been to me.

Katherine was my piano teacher as a child and teenager. It was under her guidance that I began teaching the neighbourhood kids when I was 15. Life then took me in other directions in my 20s, but when I got the opportunity at age 30 to teach again I knew that I had to return to studying with Katherine. Katherine provides a quality of learning that is incomparable. I came to her with multiple high-level goals, and she was able to easily construct manageable timelines for each of them.  As a results-based teacher, she took what seemed overwhelming and provided a clear map of how to achieve each objective. Her sense of purpose and direction keep each lesson productive. The other outstanding thing about her teaching is her innate ability to showcase the artistic personality of every piece of music, no matter how easy or challenging it may be. Katherine brings out the fullest of musicality in everything she plays, and is able to conceptualize and describe the music in such a way as to inspire her students to see what she sees in it, or feel what she feels. Ultimately, she nurtures our own sense of musicality, while imparting to us her exquisite skills that allow us to control sound down to the finest detail. Finally, Katherine's expertise in music history, theory, and technique are indispensable to the learning I am doing. I have gladly traveled the hour to Etobicoke every week for the last 5 years to study with Katherine, as I know that with her I am a better musician and teacher myself!
